Software Tools Not every business can afford to invest in
software and resources, especially during
the start up stage. Here are some FREE
web tools (or some require only a small monthly
subscription) to address the most crucial
needs of any small business:
Bundles phone, instant messenger (chat),
conferencing, video conferencing. All
Skype PC-to-PC calls are free and there are
options such as SkypeOut (calling landline
telephone numbers) and SkypeIn (gives you
a phone number for anywhere in the world). Ability to transfer files. Skype can
be faster than email. Skype can also
be used to conduct meetings. Typically,
it would be used in conjunction with screen
sharing software (we use the Head Office Virtual Meeting Room). Skype supports video and works with
any camera attached to your computer.
Subscription based internet-hosted 'virtual
office', including business email designed for small to medium-sized businesses.
Share calendars, contacts, tasks, files,
projects, email and more. More information ... For those not using Head Office's Document Manager, Box has an easy to use interface, access
to files is permission based and links to
files are easily shared. We use Box
to store files and documents for clients
not using Head Office. Box has some other great features too, including
creating and editing web based documents
directly online.
“The future is likely to be the age
of virtual businesses,” writes Anita
Campbell, founder of Small Business Trends.
“Forget three guys in a garage —
that was your father’s startup. Today
it’s three people spread out across
the country or even across continents, each
in their home offices with laptops, mobile
phones, and WiFi.” This complete All-in-One Office Suite contains all that is needed for a productive
day at the office, from word processing,
spreadsheets, presentations, and more.
A FREE contender to Microsoft Office! For those not using Head Office's business email, Outlook Express is a FREE alternative to Microsoft Outlook,
but has a similar interface and similar features.
If you're looking for a comprehensive
and free office suite, then Outlook Express
complements the Open Office Office Suite
(which does not include email).
